Samsung SLIQ Phone Concept

Wow, it seems like everyone wants a piece of the touch-sensitive pie. The Samsung SLIQ bears a striking resemblance to the LG Prada Phone, which we all know competes directly against the upcoming Apple iPhone. In all fairness, the glossy black handset was not created by Samsung themselves, but is rather the fruits of designer Mike Serafin's labor.

Like so many Samsung products before it, you get a glossy black exterior and a fairly minimalist approach in terms of number of buttons and switches. Instead, you get a 2.0 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, an ultra thin profile of just 10mm, and a "sexy disappearing LCD screen." Perhaps even more interestingly, the Samsung SLIQ is taking a page out of the OLPC by adding in a hand crank "for when the battery runs out."

The SLIQ is just a concept and one that has not been officially endorsed by Samsung, so don't expect to find this in stores anytime soon.

Proclaim Audio’s DMT-100 Audiophile Stereo Speakers ($26,000)

A few days back, we were talking about some heftily priced luxury speakers and now, we have another one that makes a smashing entry to the list. Proclaim Audio’s DMT-100 speakers have been designed for those true audiophiles who want the best from their speakers.

The patent pending speakers are balanced on high-grade aluminum and stainless steel stand. The integrated technology called driver manipulation allows the users to move the arms and adjust the height of the speakers accordingly to listen to the crisp quality sound. The audiophile stereo speakers feature external crossover instead of internal ones as to deliver the just right acoustic environment in the room. The alien-styled DMT-100 speakers are available in an array of color options, including white with black hardware and the tempting royal purple with satin aluminum hardware.

Wacom Bamboo Graphics Tablet (£69.99)

The tablet can detect 512 pressure levels and the built-in touch ring makes it easy to zoom or scroll within documents. There are also four programmable ExpressKeys, so you've got quick access to commonly used commands - like cut and paste.

MacTablet Concept

Designed by Yann Le Coroller, the MacTablet concept comes jam packed with a detachable keyboard that doubles as a protective cover. There is no word yet on the release date.

Acer Aspire Gemstone Notebook ($TBA)

The new Acer Gemstone has been unveiled, and the looks have been described as one that has a distinctly rounded fuller shape, quite a departure from the traditional squarish designs.

The “opalesque” curves complement the design. It features “neon blue light that streams in from the DC-in port on the side to the power button just beneath the keyboard.” Of course the main attraction is the speakers that are Dolby Surround certified. Street noise suggests that the specs may include high-definition optical drives; Blu-ray or HD DVD. Seven new touch-sensitive media keys are also integrated into the laptop.

Bang & Olufsen EarSet 2 Bluetooth headset ($TBC)

Bang & Olufsen, known for their quality (if expensive) audio equipment, has put their expertise into a Bluetooth headset that promises to cut out background noise so your conversation is easier to hear.

The EarSet 2 headset features audio technology able to filter out environmental noise. Two omni-directional microphones filter and suppress wind noise, giving the best voice transmission possible.

Added to this, the loudspeaker in the EarSet 2 is a miniature closed cabinet loudspeaker unit, supported by air vents and a bass port together with an ergonomic design. Its frequency response gives a high degree of tonal clarity.

Each call is optimised with B&O’s Digital Signal Processing (DSP), which monitors both the dynamic technical and tonal qualities of the signal in order to accurately reproduce the human voice. This means that not all transmission noise is eliminated, as this would create dead sound in natural pauses.

The headset features a short fold-old microphone arm, which also switches the unit on. The ear piece is three-way adjustable, and the whole unit is made from aluminium and soft-touch plastic.

B&O’s attention to detail even extends to a specially composed ring tone, the melody of which has been adapted for placement close to the ear.

The headset has a transmission range of up to 10 metres, with a battery life offering up to four hours of talk and 100 hours standby. It weighs 22g.
