Acura Advanced Sports Car ($TBA)

The Acura Advanced Sports Car concept which went on show at the 2007 North American International Auto Show provides a preview of the next generation Acura exotic sports car. Or NSX for short (see also the Honda HSC concept).

The Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept is designed to incorporate a front-mounted, V10 engine and a new high-performance, version of Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) with bias given to the rear wheels.

The Advanced Sports Car Concept's exterior features a long, pronounced hood with sculpted lines and embossed air vents, and exterior styling lines which run the entire length of the body, creating a ribbon-like effect from the front headlights to the rear wheel arches.

Although modern in its appearance, the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept retains the subtle cues associated with its predecessor, the Honda/Acura NSX. The concept's slim, LED headlights are pushed wide and designed to mimic the pop-up headlights found on the first generation NSX. Other styling cues include a modern take on wraparound rear taillights and the all black cockpit made from tinted glass.

Under the pronounced arches of the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept are custom made 19 inch front and 20 inch rear wheels made from billet aluminium. Behind these are carbon ceramic brake disks gripped by eight piston calipers.

"Our intention was to design an exotic sports car that gracefully combines advanced technology and strong emotion," said Jon Ikeda, principal designer, Acura Design Center. "The technical, machined surfaces and keen-edge design are balanced with sweeping curves and dramatic lines, all of which results in the ultimate exotic sports car."

CLEVER

The CLEVER, standing for, Compact Low Emission VEhicle for URban Transport, is the culmination of three years of research and design by a European consortium (including BMW and the University of Bath) setup to explore future environmentally friendly transport concepts.

The CLEVER is a vehicle which combines the safety of a microcar, and the useful maneuverability of a motorbike, all while powered by a natural gas fueled engine.

The 230cc BMW engine was modified by the Institute Fran็ais du P้trole (IFP) to accept the natural gas, this environmentally responsible engine produces 17 hp (12.5 kW) and a maximum torque of 15.5 Nm at 6,300 rpm, this gives the CLEVER a top speed of around 50 mph. Fuel consumption for the CLEVER is estimated to be 2.4 liters/100 km gasoline equivalent (98 mpg US), with 59.5 g/km of CO2 emissions. The two connected gas bottle fuel tanks provide a range of approximately 93 miles (150 km).

An inherent problem with three-wheel vehicles is tipping during high speed cornering. To solve this dangerous problem the CLEVER leans, just as a motorcycle and it's rider do during cornering. The cabin tilting mechanism present on the CLEVER was designed by the University of Bath. Basically it uses two hydraulic actuators to rotate the cabin around a maximum of 45° each way. The system is controlled by a computer which calculates the desired lean angle by taking into account speed, tilt angle of the cabin, and lateral acceleration.
